The main purpose of our website is to educate you, the consumer, with honest and straight forward information about the numerous choices you have when deciding on a shutter product for your home.  It is also our hope that we will have an opportunity to earn your business.   Quality and Service are the cornerstones of Colorado Shutters and we thank you for taking time to visit us today.

I've worked in the shutter business here in Colorado for 16 years and I've seen it all, needless to say, I've learned a lot!  I've met hundreds of people who've made un-informed decisions or been taken advantage of by a smooth talking sales person who didn't take the time to educate them about the importance of considering quality over price alone when choosing a shutter.  Three years after choosing an inferior product they wonder why there shutters are warped or sag and they can't figure out why the shutters won't open or close cleanly, or the opening mechanisms don't function correctly anymore.  Almost always these people made the choice to buy inferior vinyl or poly shutters or even worse, purchased the "sale of the month" at one of the "big box" home improvment centers.

I'm always a little confused when I get called out to a home in this situation and see that the customer has quality through out the home, granite counters, wood floors and nice cabinets with a beautiful home with an open floor plan, and they decided to go with low priced or low quality when it came to their shutters?  Now don't get me wrong, I love Home Depot and other big box stores, and I buy a lot of products there like my tools and paint for projects but the shutter products are inferior products that are priced to sell but don't offer the quality that most people want in their homes.  Well, to keep it professional let's just say, it’s not their specialty and the employees come and go as well as their shutter suppliers and you are left with the resulting damaged look wondering where you went wrong.

I also get a lot of calls from people who have purchased their shutters online from a company located halfway across the country and they've now run into a problem and need a professional to help them to figure out what to do.  They either don't install properly or are not operating right out of their box.  It's my opinion that you need to find a professional who can help you with this process?

At Colorado Shutters we have a vast choice of competively priced shutter products along with great service that starts right at the beginning of the process.  Our FREE Estimate process helps you make the right design decisions and product selections.  While we are not the cheapest shutter company available to you, at the end of the day we have a vast array of different selections to help make the best choices available for your budget.   My father always told me that cheap things aren't usually good and good things aren't cheap and this is certainly true when it comes to shutters in your home.

The #1 call we get here at Colorado shutters is “How much a square foot?” This is a loaded question because not all shutters are made equal.  I know when this type of call comes in that I'm being priced compared to an inferior shutter product sold online or at one of the big box stores.  It can also happen when a shutter company sends out a sales representative selling inferior products made of Vinyl, Faux Wood or Poly materials.  I've written about these types of products for you so you can understand some of the potential pitfalls you should be aware of.

Using Interior Vinyl Shutters:

Interior vinyl shutters are the least expensive shutters on the market today. Vinyl shutters can be quickly and cheaply manufactured so the end consumer can purchase shutters on a minimum budget for a perceived value. Interior vinyl components are hollow, which requires aluminum reinforcements for stability and caps to cover the louver ends. Hollow rails and louvers cause vinyl to become opaque - allowing unwanted light to enter the room. Vinyl shutters don't have the look and quality of traditional wood shutters.

Vinyl shutters are only made in the plantation style with limited louver size options. Vinyl offers a very few color options (usually white and off-white), and vinyl shutters obviously can not be stained. Vinyl shutters are largely sold by home improvement stores or lumber yards as a low cost alternative to wood interior shutters which make vinyl shutters easy to find.

Positives about vinyl interior shutters:
+ Vinyl shutters are virtually water proof.
+ Vinyl shutters are inexpensive.
+ Vinyl shutters can sometimes be made into limited, semi custom units.

Negatives about vinyl interior shutters:
- Vinyl shutters are hollow with a significantly diminished energy efficiency.
- Vinyl colors are limited.
- Vinyl shutters can not be stained.
- Vinyl shutters are not available in traditional styles and sizes.

Synthetics, Plastics, Faux Wood, and Poly

Many synthetics incorporate "wood" in their name, but most contain no wood - usually called faux wood shutters or poly shutters. Made from stock size components with limited custom options. These shutters can be limited in color selections, and cannot be stained. Synthetic shutters are relatively new, so there is limited customer satisfaction experience. Synthetics are less costly to manufacture, so they can be attractive to some customers.  Some synthetic materials are heavy and may be prone to sag. Synthetics are manufactured from petrolium basted nonrenewable resources.  Colorado Shutters use high quality poly shutters for our customers who are on tighter budget but still want the look and quality that shutters can provide.

At Colorado Shutters we use the highest quality hardwoods to build our shutters so that we can create the quality and efficiency that your home deserves.  We climate control our shutters in a moisture controlled environment which is not inexpensive but vitally important for your shutters to last a lifetime.  We use only the highest quality hardwoods that will allow the kiln to dry the wood out just enough.  Our finish process is incredible and will stand the test of time.  Furniture quality is the only way to go and when you see our shutter panels in your home you will be glad you decided to go with Colorado Shutters.

I hope that you this information was helpful and I look forward to working with you if you are in the market for a quality shutter experience.  Please feel free to contact us with any unanswered questions you might have.
